Air Conditioning Repair Katy Texas

Monday, February 27th, 2023

Hello and welcome to the #1 Katy, Texas air conditioning blog. AC repair for the Katy area can come at a moments notice and nearly any month of the year. It’s why I often provide this context for content I put out. It’s important the information you are using to make comfort decisions for you home is accurate for the climate in which you live.

HVAC is the acronym that describes the system that makes up your heating and cooling for your home. In my climate of Katy, Texas we still have heating systems but they don’t get as much use as our air conditioners. Those in more mild climates may not turn on their AC until as late as June. The argument for those climates is waiting until they have a problem in June or July and saying things like: Well your climate is no different it’s hot everywhere right now. The difference is a hotter climate spends more time at higher temps than a mild climate will. Throw in a healthy dose of humidity and you’ve got a recipe for being uncomfortable. Being comfortable is the purpose of this Austin Air Companie website & Air Conditioning Blog serving the Katy, Texas area. No two homes are alike, no two people are alike when it comes to comfort concerns. I am here to provide you a solution once I understand what your concerns are. My definition of a solution is different than most… I define a solution that will solve the problem you have now without creating new problems. This context is what separates me from most other service providers.

The differences in how much more we run our AC’s for Katy, Texas climate also relates to wear and tear. The more you use something the more likely it is to break. Certainly there will be those that may tell you it’s because of the brand of your system. This is merely a con game to convince you that a “name” is going to cure all your troubles so they can sell you a new box with a different name on it. If you spend a few hours watching my video content on my you tube channel or combing thru various blog posts on my HVAC website(s), I think there’s enough info here to tell you that a brand name system — whatever brand it is – is no guarantee that it will or won’t break. I say this primarily to those who come to this climate that aren’t accustomed to spending money on air conditioning concerns. This is additional context to show you where I am coming from and going to. You spend money on AC via a myriad of methods… maintenance & repair costs and eventually replacement costs. Skimping on any one of these winds up costing you more on utilities. So you pay regardless.

I am an AC repair man first. AC repairs in Katy, Texas for just over 29 years now. I’ve been doing air conditioning repairs for longer than some of you have been alive. This isn’t about bragging. This is about printing the truth in a world in which very little is based on truth. It’s usually some gimmick of promising this or that – coming to your house for free to do professional work. Why would a professional do work for free? I’ve seen the ads on TV and I am assuming that you’ve seen them too with this comment. The con or myth if you will is doing things for free to get their foot in the door. Their attitude will do a 180 if not a 360 degree turn once they are inside your house. I’ve been there done that.

Look I know anyone can say whatever they want on the internet so I take the time to write my own blog posts on subjects like this because it’s important to give you some realistic assumptions. I’ve taken the time to produce a video myself. No heavy production costs I filmed it with my cell phone & edited it sitting in front of a green screen in my office that I run out of my home to show you (embedded below). I provide you context with in that video as to what I can do for you may be similar or significantly different depending on the condition of your AC equipment. I have helped hundreds and hundreds of your neighbors, I know I can do something similar for you too.

Tired of being uncomfortable in or near Katy, Texas?

Call Ray Austin right now @ 832~475~6895 and schedule your AC service.

If you decide to watch the video below pay attention why air conditioning is more than just a box or a series of boxes. Just because it turns on  oand off doesn’t mean it is working. There are parts of the video below that show this. This AC system you have is based on science, not magic or brand of the month club.

AC repair video:

AC Repair Katy, Texas A cool story in which I had to travel back in time to be able to tell it.

So why would I talk about differences of climate in a blog post about Katy, Texas?

This is primarily because a lot of people have been moving to Texas over the past couple of years. Many are uneducated when it comes to the air conditioning concerns of a hot climate. The climate of Katy, Texas is unique in that it’s not only hot but it’s also very humid. The more humid a climate, the more problems it presents to feel comfortable, especially when you move here from a more mild climate. Many areas of the USA have essentially a 2 to 3 month cooling or air conditioning need.

I am here to help you make better comfort choices. There are many changes coming to the HVAC equipment market in the next few years. A popular refrigerant we use now is going to be phased down and out in the next few years with a new equipment ban that will likely take effect in 2025. I have a section dedicated to explaining this topic in it’s entirety as well as a recent update in 2023. Click here for info on these changes.

HVAC for a hot climate isn’t about gimmicks if you choose that path it is my professional opinion it won’t last. You will always need a good HVAC contractor if you live in a climate like Katy, Texas. If I fixed your AC once I can fix it again.

Thank you for visiting with me today. I hope I’ve cleared up some misconceptions and possibly a few myths. As always I hope your day is comfortable.

About the Author of this Katy, Texas Air Conditioning Blog:

My name is Ray Austin. I am the owner and operator of Austin Air Companie, a HVAC Service Company serving Katy, Texas | Cypress, Texas | Richmond, Texas | Fulshear, Texas and some surrounding areas. I am a Texas Licensed HVAC Contractor with 29 years experience in Air Conditioning and Heating Systems as of 2023 (TACLB28416E). I hold an AOS degree in HVAC/R, EPA universally certified to handle any refrigerant and NATE certified in HVAC installations and repairs.

I also own and operate a home rental business. This is to list my qualifications. If you want someone with less skill or free advice I am not it (most of the time). If I run a free call it’s because of your service history – my decision, not yours. Time is worth more than money. There are exceptions to every rule. If I have no service history from your address it’s most likely to cost a fee to come out. That service fee can be credited toward any work you decide to have me do for you.

Ray Austin is a business man & Austin Air Companie is run as a for profit business. If you are looking for gimmicks this isn’t going to be a good fit for me or for you. I am a one man show and the work you see in all my videos, the videos themselves are all my own work. My opinion is all you will ever get, usually this comes in the form of options in which you can pick from once I inform you of your potential choices.

My view is an old proverb saying that goes like this:

Too many cooks in the kitchen spoil the broth. OR Too many knuckle heads attempting a career path they shouldn’t  have can cause more trouble than they’re worth. I was once a hard working tech for a major AC company so this isn’t to suggest there aren’t good HVAC techs out there.

About Austin Air Companie: Celebrating 15 years in 2023. (By this time I’ve proven my methods work.) Is it always perfect? No. Not even the gimmick providers do that. Mechanical equipment regardless of brand breaks for a wide variety of reasons. If I fixed it once I can fix it again. (repeatable business) If it’s not repeatable you’re out of business. — the number you have reached has been disconnected or no longer in service. (I illustrate it for you so you can vision it.)

Thank you for at least considering me as your comfort provider.

Air Conditioner Was Recently Installed By Other AC Company And It Is Noisy When It Starts Up

Friday, July 8th, 2022

Quote from Website contact form:

Hi there… I bought a Armstrong Air A/C about a year ago from a friend. From the get-go, when the unit starts up (upon engagement) there’s a loud boom.

I called him (the friend) about three months ago and he installed a hard start device on it. At first, it seemed to quiet the unit a bit but 95% of the time when it starts up it sounds like a shotgun going off.

I contacted Armstrong Air Corp office. All they said basically was to get an A/C guy out to examine it. I don’t see how this units life span will be long, plus it’s loud as heck. Any suggestions? Thank you XXXX.

End Quote.

So I called this guy (the home owner) and we had a lengthy discussion over the phone when it was convenient for me because of ‘time’ which is money in it’s most valuable form.  Service isn’t free, time isn’t free and my labor cost doesn’t come from a manufacturer warranty.

The round about way this conversation went from the start is that he (the home owner) needed to get his friend (the person who installed this machine) to fix the problem. That was my suggestion.

He (the home owner) tells me this guy is no longer his friend.

The home owner paid friend for a product / service he didn’t get. Either the friend does the job he was paid to do OR…….. read on.

HVAC Repair Service Katy Texas Choices

You have choices, but if it’s going to involve me it’s going to cost you money. You can ask for suggestions via my contact form but 9 times out of 10 you’re not going to like what I have to say. I may offer you more than one option, each with it’s own set of risks. I am a AC repair man first, if it breaks again? I can probably fix it again under the same set of conditions as before. HVAC repair is my business in Katy, Texas.

It is better for you if you haven’t conflicted yourself with another HVAC contractor. The HVAC industry is changing as it occasionally does and sometimes it changes in ways that are not beneficial to you when you’ve put your trust in a company that doesn’t stand behind the equipment they installed for you.

Call Ray Today at 832-475-6895. 28 years in HVAC as of 2022. 14 Years running my own HVAC Service Company. Learn what 100’s and 100’s of your neighbors already know.

Noise is a complicated subject for a system that I have not inspected. This person was at the time I talked to him looking for a ‘simple’ fix. If this AC only needed a simple fix why didn’t his friend fix it? This circular logic isn’t to degrade anyone it is to offer clarity to the gravity of this particular situation. I warned him in advance that it didn’t sound to me like a simple fix is in his future.

I have installed numerous different air conditioning brands over the years and never once have I been faced with what is likely a compressor sounding like a shot gun blast every time it starts up.

I have no idea what was done when this unit was installed, let alone what was not done that should have been. So because of this it represents a ‘conflict of interest’ for me to become involved in it EXCEPT, that the home owner is willing to pay for whatever solution I offer to correct the issue. The manufacturer doesn’t pay for anything they merely provide a part with even more conditions in some situations.

I wasn’t the installing HVAC contractor to this unit, that is the job of the installing contractor to make this problem right on a AC unit that is about 1 year old as far as I know.

One such solution would be to replace the offending part of the system. The part that is making all the noise. But it’s a new 1 year old AC unit? If I were to replace this compressor under part warranty and the manufacturer determined later this part failure was due to something improper at installation, the manufacturer would have every right to deny the warranty of that compressor.

I then face the risk of being charged for this compressor when it wasn’t my job from the get go. So you understand why this is a conflict of interest. At least I hope you understand.

You have to realize I am here to do things right. It’s a trade mark within my logo. *Done Right*

If I installed the HVAC machine, some of it, part of it and it develops some problem like this I am going to stand behind it and correct it. I spell out what is covered on a warranty and what isn’t. In some unusual cases it *may* cost some money to repair the problem depending largely what is wrong with it and what is involved in fixing it / how long it took for the problem to occur.

There are limitations to every warranty. My job to fulfill a warranty is to ‘make you whole’ when I was the installing HVAC contractor. However, this doesn’t always mean it will be a free repair. Labor, Maintenance, power surges, rodents, refrigerants, equipment use to repair problems are not covered by any manufacturer warranty. Exception: labor is typically covered for 1 year by the installing contractor. Anything above that and you pay for it up front, but that will also come with additional requirements such as prepaid maintenance contracts to maintain the equipment. If those maintenance appointments are not performed, that extended labor warranty won’t be worth the paper it’s printed on.

What I spell out here is fact (truth). If you want a gimmick, you’re not going to find it here.

Refrigerants (Freon)

The refrigerant your system uses R410a has shot up in the realm of 325-340% since a year ago. (2022) Manufacturers do not cover refrigerant, even if I am replacing a compressor under a warranty for a unit that I am not responsible for. No I am not going to reuse the refrigerant in your current system because that refrigerant could be the cause of what is wrong with the system, or lead to that cause.

Does this mean I am not compassionate? No. I understand this home owner paid for a product and he didn’t get what he paid for.

If I have said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times that the installation of the AC unit is the most important part. It’s not just what you know, it’s also what you should know but don’t realize.

Sharing is caring. I share this subject freely to help you the home owner make wiser decisions. I give you choices. Currently this home owner has decided to do nothing, because he paid for a product & service he didn’t get from a different HVAC contractor.

If he decides to later use my services to correct this problem, I’m almost certainly likely to include this subject on an upcoming video on my YouTube Channel.

I gave him (the home owner) a choice, pay more money to me to investigate with a full fledge warning in advance based on my experience of 28 years that likely what I recommend to him isn’t going to be something he will like monetarily.

If Austin Air Companie is going to do some work for you, that work is something I am going to stand behind. Does that mean there will never be any more additional cost? No. I am well aware of the gimmicks floating around out there.

If they aren’t gimmicks there wouldn’t have been any need for this home owner to contact me this way.

Thank you for visiting with me today. I hope at the very least this AC blog post has offered some clarity and the importance of who you choose to maintain, service, repair & replace your home HVAC system.

As always I hope your day is comfortable.

My name is Ray Austin owner/operator of Austin Air Companie a small HVAC service company that services the Katy, Texas area and some surrounding areas. I write my own blogs, I make my own videos, No investors, no intimidation to tell you like it is. My HVAC career is 28 years long, 14 of which running and operating my own HVAC service company.

If you call me, you will get me. There is no technician roulette wheel to spin here at Austin Air Companie. Call Ray Today! 832-475-6895

Did you know that HVAC is often times a game of cat and mouse? You see early on in my HVAC career I was forced to run calls for free. Because the managers / owners of the company I worked for were into games of tricking people. The advertisements were geared toward making the phone ring (promising free this or that). Then to make those advertisements pay off I was told to sell new HVAC systems. You have to do that to pay for those fancy advertisements from the TV. In 2022 advertising costs are even higher not to mention the cost of everything else.

If you are calling me I will inform you of all choices after inspecting your HVAC system(s) even repairing your air conditioner if that option makes sense. I am skilled in working for you, not just recommending something that is only beneficial to me. It’s about providing you an air conditioning service that you can rely on. I will do my best to explain the risks of doing what you decide to do. That is what a skilled HVAC contractor can do for you.

If I ran service calls for free now with gas prices where they are up over $4 a gallon currently (2022). That isn’t wise financially. I have to remain in business to serve the customers I have already. As I lay out things that are changing in the HVAC industry in this Katy Texas AC Blog post you need a skilled HVAC contractor more than ever. Unless of course you are naturally wealthy and can afford to replace your AC equipment over and over again.

The choice is yours to make. I lay it out for you then you choose what you think is best for you and your situation. If something else happens? Call me again. You will always need a good HVAC repair man, more so now than any other time before.

Anyone can say anything on the internet. I am well aware of that so I provide you some proof below that I can silence your air conditioning noise. The unit in the video below was much older. I was called out long after it had started making all kinds of racket. The unit shown in the below video made this racket for years, until it finally gave up the battle on a very hot summer day a few years ago….

Watch me fix the noisy Air Conditioner in the video below. I’ve been out to this house several times since this unit was fixed, repairing other parts of this HVAC system. The unit is still as quiet as it was the day I installed it.

You will always need a good HVAC repair man.

Air Conditioning Problems Katy, Texas

The single most common reason why my AC company exists. It seems that everyone chases around after that perfect elusive brand that is without worry of breakage. The gimmick of all gimmicks… an Air Conditioner that never breaks down. Every AC brand breaks down. So what can you do? You must find someone you trust in the area in which you live. This is not a do it yourself business.

Repair Any AC Brand*

I’m in the AC business. My business only exceeds by being able to fix or repair any Air Conditioning brand, sure I design systems & install them too, but that is only a small portion of my business, many people would rather live by mistake then to do what is deemed by me as doing it right. If you live within my service area of Katy, Texas | Cypress, Texas | Richmond, Texas and some surrounding areas and you call me it is unlikely I will ask you what brand of air conditioning equipment you have. [*Some limitations or restrictions may apply.]

Why does this matter? Because I want to fill you in on a topic that is often used by salesmen in general to sell you new equipment and more importantly a brand that is ‘supposedly’ better than what you have. I have given this the term that I call ‘brand bashing’. Your unit broke down so it is inferior to the brand I carry.

Watch this video embedded below for further understanding of this topic: (note this blog was updated March 25, 2019 video added)

How convenient. Comparing a new machine to one that is broken? Are people really this naive? Not you… You wouldn’t be reading this / watching videos about such topics would you?

Manufacturer’s of Air Conditioning Systems

Did you know that there are only 7 manufacturers of Air Conditioning and Heating equipment? But there are a plethora of different brands and even more in differences of models among those brands? You wouldn’t be able to use them all in your lifetime. So you are going to pick one model of these based on a NAME?                                                Hello? Do you see a problem with that?

Ok, so let’s name them shall we? (in no particular order)

York

Carrier

Trane

Ruud

Lennox

Goodman

NorTek

I bet you recognize a few of those names. Those are the manufacturer’s. They are the one’s responsible for all brands, makes and models available today in the Air Conditioning and Heating market. Now let me make your head spin a little and name some off brands that just pop into my head that are also made from the same manufacturer’s I just named above in no particular order….

Generic Air Conditioning Brands

Rheem, Ducane, Heil, Tempstar, Ameristar, Payne, Bryant, Amana, American Standard, Arco Aire, Grand Aire, Maytag, Gibson, Frigid Aire, Aire Flo, Armstrong, Day n Night, GMC, Daikin, Comfort Maker, Cobra, Coleman, Whirl Pool, Kenmore

There could be a few more but even my head is hurting after all of that. So what’s my point?

Easy really. If there was ONE. Just one perfect brand among 7 different manufacturer’s then why are there so many? It is like anything else you buy.

But you know what I often hear in the field? Oh, I’ll buy anything but brand xyz?

Which brings me to another point… If I go to a home that already has the common preferred brand and it’s broken, there is no fan fare about brand. Realization of a gimmick is different from impression of something that is advertised as being better. When in fact it is not. They all break.

I Need An Air Conditioning Solution

So then what is the solution? Me. Certainly this won’t help you if you are outside of my service area. But if anything this gives you clues as to who you need to search for in your area. Someone like me.

Your other option is to look extensively at the maintenance AC men of the world and throw the dice. (You see the tune up ads everywhere you look right?) You may get lucky, you may waste a lot of time, energy and possibly money. There’s about a 40% chance you will find anyone really that good in larger companies and the face they send you will likely differ every time you call which will only decrease the odds out of your favor further.

If you call me on the other hand… it is me who will come to your home. Have you ever heard the phrase ‘Too many cooks in the kitchen spoil the broth?’ Well can you imagine what this does to your poor AC system?

Put the trust of your HVAC system in the hands of a pro (one pro) and don’t look back. ( I am a licensed HVAC contractor a technician in this state is merely registered with the state and must work under the supervision of a licensed HVAC contractor.)

Your comfort is my business and my job. That is a tough order to fill right? If it’s not a tough order to fill then you probably have a lot of time to waste and love being uncomfortable in your own home huh?

The truth doesn’t pay like a flashy gimmick seems to. Ah the world we live in. You’re smarter than all that nonsense or you wouldn’t be here. It is by no accident that my company comes highly rated. If the AC brands I installed were inferior how could my ratings as a company be that high?

If my work wasn’t that good how is it that I answer my own phone?

If my work wasn’t that good how is it that more than 50% of the calls I receive are repaired within 3 hours of receiving the call?

If I wasn’t the one doing the work and typing this how could I say the above comments?

Try me and you’ll find out what many of your neighbors already know.

Clearly anyone can brag on themselves on the internet, but my goal is to inform you here. This doesn’t mean I never make a mistake, but the odds of such are quite low and many times I catch the mistake before it becomes evident to you.

Thank you for visiting me today. I hope your day is comfortable – My business is Service & Comfort, as service is a part of comfort. It is my opinion you can’t have one without the other.

Air Conditioning Service

Tuesday, August 16th, 2016

Air conditioning repairs, AC service or new AC equipment installations require the magical little word called ‘SERVICE‘. Without that word you’re in big trouble if a problem develops with your AC system. What does that word mean to you?

This little word ‘service‘ is what in many ways separates one AC company from another. Now all things aside some people view service differently than others. Maybe due to household schedules or whatever. However, your AC system whether new, a few years old or even a decade old or older can break down at any time. Brand of the equipment doesn’t matter all that much in most cases.

Weekend, Night time, Holiday, etc. An air conditioner doesn’t know time like you or me. So why is this important?

If you buy a new HVAC system and it breaks down, your best option to repair it is thru your installing HVAC contractor, because this is who you bought the system thru. It would be a ‘HUGE’ conflict of interest to let another HVAC contractor repair your HVAC system that was installed by another.

If your HVAC system is older and out of the manufacture warranty envelope then it only matters to what degree you trust the HVAC provider that you are calling.

Any HVAC company you use should be licensed and insured and the license number should be displayed on all invoices, advertisements and both sides of the front quarter panel of the service vehicle that comes to your home. (This is Texas law.)

HVAC System Problems & Conflicts of Interest

So why then is this a conflict of interest to have Company ‘B’ work on a new HVAC system installed by Company ‘A’?

Because lets say you have two companies without mentioning names… you have company ‘A’ and company ‘B’. Company ‘A’ installed your new HVAC system.

Your new AC system is now broken and you call ‘A’ but they are closed, don’t answer their phone, goes to voice mail or maybe after hours call service in which you sit on hold for who knows how long only to be told after waiting on hold –that an on call person will call you back in some cases hours later. Say What?

So you think… not clearly due to the excess heat in your house, that you’ll just call another company that services HVAC equipment. Company ‘B’ answers the phone not realizing they are a 3rd party to your otherwise inoperable dilemma. Say they come out diagnose the system for you, charge for labor and other things not covered by your manufacture warranty. They leave, the system works for awhile then breaks down again.

You now decide to call company ‘A’ back. After investigating the system Company ‘A’ determines someone else has been working on it and decides to take the brash approach of denying a warranty claim on your otherwise new AC system. You are in a bad position to say the least.

Unresolved AC Technical Problems

Another common scenario to this is Company ‘A’ the installing company of your new or fairly new HVAC system is called back during normal business hours, they make a repair to the AC unit under warranty terms of the installation charge for labor or whatever charges aren’t covered by the warranty of the AC system.

The AC system works for awhile and then breaks again OR the AC system doesn’t work at all still or worse than before. Part of the reason some of these HVAC companies exist is to replace HVAC systems with no service or technical department to repair the systems they sell. A good deal is a bad deal in short order.

Sometimes they may brag about how many HVAC systems they have installed. But they never mention how many of them they still service? You see the problem with that? QUALITY over quantity OR QUANTITY over quality. Which would you want?

A parts changer is defined as changing parts without proving the part has actually failed. A guess is a guess. Guessing will not fix or repair too many air conditioning systems. Believe it or not you will pay for it one way or another. Why not do it right the first time?

Katy, Texas Licensed HVAC Contractor

This is what I am (Licensed HVAC Contractor), you can’t run a HVAC company in Texas (legally) by any other means. If you hire someone working under another license (commonly AC Technician) your recourse for AC problems that develop with your system goes thru them. If it is a ‘side job’ installed by a technician it is unlikely the warranty covering that system is worth the paper it’s printed on.

I take the HVAC contractor thing to the next level in that I do all my own HVAC installations and AC repairs. I don’t use Technicians, Subs or Installers. I have found I can offer much better quality when I’m fully involved in any project whether it is repair, replace or SERVICE! (It is actually me writing this blog – Ray Austin. No one can be me, but me.) Subscribe to my You Tube Channel here.

Side Job AC Installations Warranty Void By Manufacturer

There are little disclaimers within the warranty limitations that protect manufacturer’s from unlicensed, unskilled people from selling, installing and or servicing equipment.

Improper installation is not warrantable just as much as purchasing equipment over the internet. If you have to resort to such methods imagine how much trouble you are going to have if your AC equipment fails unexpectedly?

Side jobs are done in cash. A technician doing a side job doesn’t want any documentation because if his boss finds out he faces immediate termination from his regular job. You can’t hide a side job from a licensed HVAC contractor. If you don’t have any documentation of installation how do you expect to be covered by a Manufacture Warranty?

Every piece of AC equipment made has unique model number and serial numbers that are attached to the HVAC license that bought it. If there was no HVAC license present at the time of sale, the warranty is virtually worthless in most cases. A technician license is not a valid license in and of itself. In Texas, a valid HVAC contractor license is gold in color, a technician license is white.  A technician license is merely a registration with the state. Send in your $20 and boom! You are now a AC technician too? Ironically it doesn’t mean much without EPA certification. The more you read here, the more you will learn.

No Licensed HVAC contractor worth their ‘salt’ is going to warranty or install an air conditioner that you bought over the internet. You buy it, you install it and warranty it yourself.

A new AC system install a few years old with problems and you’re calling a HVAC contractor that didn’t install it? What do you suppose this Licensed AC Contractor is going to think when he sees the equipment in question?

Why aren’t you calling the HVAC contractor who installed it?

Just for fun, I’ll tell you a few likely titles of this made for home movie:
“NO WAY OUT!”
“That’s Going To Cost You”
“No Where To Hide”

Professional AC Repairs

This Air Conditioning blog is designed to help you make wise decisions when it comes to your choices regarding comfort decisions for your home. I hope you attained this information before making a costly mistake.

All is not lost, costly mistakes are lessons, provided you learn from them and don’t repeat them. An HVAC system is, by a national average, a 15 year appliance and in some cases can last even longer when installation and maintenance is done properly and adequately. Notice I didn’t mention a brand name here, brand bashing is not professionalism by any stretch of the imagination.

Nothing is perfect in an imperfect world. AC Equipment that I’ve installed myself has failure rates within the warranty period that run in a tight range of 2-3% annually. Most HVAC companies have new equipment failure rates often 8 times or higher than this figure. In some cases this may be due to a lack of maintenance by home owner, improper installation, improper diagnosis or out right incompetence. Please choose your HVAC contractor carefully and wisely.

Thank you for visiting with me today. I hope your day is comfortable!

How to choose an HVAC repair service Katy Texas?

Maybe you are at the point of doing just that… you’re trying to decide which Air Conditioning company in Katy, Texas you are going to let into your home to service, repair or install a new air conditioning system. My HVAC company is different and this blog post is designed to show what sets me apart in order to help you reach an educated decision without a bunch of gimmicks. I feel you are smarter than all of that nonsense.

This air conditioning blog post is designed to clear up a few myths first that many people have about air conditioning companies in general. Everyone has seen the low teaser rates for air conditioning check ups for 69, 59, 49, 39, 29, Free or whatever the price is. Many times the customer is lead to believe this is all they have to spend… all you need is a check up they say. You will find out pretty quick this is rarely ever the case once the company shows up to service your air conditioner or furnace.

If you’ve ever watched that popular show on TV named after a certain breed of fish tank, you know that one of the most important questions of any business is:

“What does it cost you to acquire a customer?”

This figure can be figured many different ways… the cost is typically derived from over head costs that include all expenses, like advertising, rent, tools, service vehicles and in some cases salaries of office staff, managers etc. I can assure you that customer acquisition cost for any HVAC company is no where near even the $69 figure.

So what does this mean?

It means if I run a new customer service call I am risking that I will lose a significant amount on that call if all I collect is a service fee or check up fee. Realize I said “New Customer”.

I can’t tell you specifically what that customer acquisition number is for HVAC companies because it varies based on the management decisions of the company and how it’s run and what it’s over head expenses are as well as debt levels.

This business is highly competitive and pricing structure as well as technical know how significantly influence whether a business will flourish or flounder. There is a constant flow of new HVAC businesses that start every year that think they can do it cheaper than everyone else. They pull it off for a time and then fade into the sunset.

There is nearly a 50% chance that incompetence of the technician, company or both will affect you in some way. Nearly all HVAC companies are set up this way. The problem with this is that there is no standard as to the experience level of the technician you are paying for and you’re left to repeat this procedure of choosing a comfort provider either through means of previous comfort service provider failure or a lack of that provider giving you the comfort service you deserve or a suspicion of incompetence.

It’s never cut and dry, because every HVAC contractor has his own opinion of what you should do as well as any technician that works for him. If a technician works under that contractor, they have in most cases very little in the way of say. It’s very political to say the least. I was once a technician so I know all to well what goes on.

Differences from one HVAC company to another more or less fall along the following factors:

1. Air Conditioning Knowledge & Experience.
2. Air Conditioning Service Availability.
3. Proper Air Conditioning Diagnosis & Repair.
4. Proper Air Conditioning Installation & Equipment Registration.

I am a licensed HVAC contractor and I don’t use technicians or subs. That is another difference worth mentioning.

Notice from the list above that price is no where to be found in those examples and for very good reason… prices fluctuate and companies go out of business due to those prices. If the job is done wrong what good did that low price do for you if you have to do the job again? You may not find this out for a few days, weeks or a year or more later.

HVAC is a hard business with many challenges that are unique unto itself in such that it’s a seasonal business on top of all these other challenges. During peak demands a HVAC contractor has to work in uncomfortable conditions. In many cases we are going into “the oven” more or less. Because of this there is also high turnover rates with in this business. No one calls me to tell me their AC unit is cooling perfectly. I can only assume that it is.

The challenges to me and my HVAC company are probably not what you would expect, so with that said, I encourage you to watch the video embedded below where I describe some of these challenges unique to the HVAC industry in even more detail as well as talk about my own personal challenges in starting Austin Air Companie from nothing to where I am today. I think you may find this very interesting.

A company only stays in business by repeat business or growth in new customers. A properly working air conditioner can work for years without too much fuss in most cases provided that the system was installed properly and maintenance recommendations are followed. I have served hundreds over the years… if they called me back regularly with problems I wouldn’t be pleading my case with you right now.

I use my own company statistics because I know that the more I do for my customers the less likely it is I will hear from them for additional service. So if my customers use my services once in 5 years or less because I installed a new system for that customer 5 years ago that is running problem free… well how hard is it to see that I have to keep acquiring new customers in order to survive? Hard to believe this is currently my biggest problem right?

The truth of the matter is I currently spend more time working on blogs, maintaining my personal website, making videos than I spend actually working on and repairing or installing air conditioning and heating systems. Yes, this is a bit shocking isn’t it? How can one man do all of this?

The reason behind that is none other than experience. I know what I am doing and I follow a strict work ethic that works. You may not always like what I have to say, but you don’t want me to dilute the truth do you? Reference: See gimmick definition.

Thank You! for visiting with me today. I hope this blog post and video helps you make a wise decision about your own home comfort needs in Katy, Texas, even if you decide not to use my HVAC services.
